A personal note from our founders
As educators with over a decade of experience each, we have focused on developing what truly matters: real-world competencies - how people communicate, think, and collaborate with others. Not just what they know, but how they use what they know.
But when thinking and interaction unfold in real time - whether in large classrooms or one-on-one settings - it becomes nearly impossible to fully observe, track, and respond to each individual's thoughts.
This gap is what led us to build CompetenCY (read as See-Why).
Leveraging AI, we provide personalized, rubric-aligned feedback on real-time communication and the competencies it reflects.
Our work sits at the intersection of practice and assessment research. Grace Ko, PhD (Learning Technologies, UT Austin), designs systems that work in real-world environments, while Soo Joo, EdD (Language Assessment, Columbia University), focuses on how complex competencies are defined, measured, and supported.
